At Cy4 Data Labs, we are a team of entrepreneurs with decades of combined experience, passionate about creating innovative solutions that address real-world challenges. Our core team has a deep technical background, having worked on cutting-edge projects across various industries. From developing cryptographic systems for the U.S. National Security Agency to engineering security standards like FIPS-140, and designing secure communication platforms for DARPA, our expertise spans multiple domains.

We’ve contributed to advancements in multi-core networking processors with security accelerators, large-scale telephony security, and smart card architectures. Additionally, we’ve built the industry’s first enterprise-class PCI-Express flash drive and played key roles in enabling automated, self-optimizing data centers. Our collective mission is to redefine data security and provide future-proof solutions for a more secure digital world.

Our Founding Team

Lance Smith

Co-Founder | Chief Executive Officer

Industry veteran with experience creating, leading, architecting, and executing business strategies for disruptive technologies in the software defined, microprocessor, computing, networking, and storage industries. Recently completed back-to-back pivots for startups in the database analytics and software defined storage spaces, served as SVP and GM at SanDisk Corp. and President and Chief Operating Officer for Fusion-io from startup to IPO. Mr. Smith also served as the VP and GM for the SPS Business unit at RMI Corp. responsible for defining and bringing a multi-core, multi-threaded processor business focused on networking, telecommunications, security, and embedded markets later acquired by Netlogic, Inc. and then by Broadcom, Inc. Holds patents on microprocessors, CMTSs, and flash memory storage systems. Received his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University, focused on Digital Electronics and Semiconductor Physics.

Rick White

Co-Founder | Chief Marketing Officer

Rick has a long career as a successful entrepreneur and company founder across multiple industries, including Phobos Corporation, that was acquired by SonicWall (Dell) for $319 million. Rick was also the co-founder of Fusion-io, Inc. where he served as CEO until 2008, followed by CMO until May 2013, and board member until July 2013. During his tenure, Fusion-io quickly established itself as a leader in the enterprise flash-memory market, winning several key industry awards. In June of 2011, Fusion went public and quickly reached a market cap of over $3 billion which eventually sold to SanDisk. Mr. White has been recognized as Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year, Morgan Stanley’s Master Entrepreneur awards recipient, and AIGA’s Top-50 Brand.

Todd Carper

Co-Founder | Chief Technology Officer

An entrepreneur, systems engineer and software architect with over 25 years of experience in the security and encryption field. Founder and architect of a Mohr Davidow Ventures backed smart card operating system company, CrypTEC Systems, Inc. Applications included GSM, EMV, 7816-4, VisaCash, Loyalty, Transportation, and Contactless. Mr. Carper advises the cryptocurrency markets supporting government issued ERC20 Token and Secure Network Based Digital Assets, created a largescale security endpoint validator for Verizon, designed security solutions for smart cards, developed security systems for software and video distributions licensed by Sony, Microsoft, and Apple. Holds security and encryption patents sited by Sun Micro, Axalto, Sandisk, RIM, Visa, Microsoft, Mastercard, Oracle, NXP, RIM and others.
